Japan meets Beverly Hills with the latest luxury spa to join the city of luxury. Tomoko Spa opened its doors about 3 months ago on South Beverly Drive to cater to the city’s elite. JONES Magazine had the pleasure of meeting with Tomoko and seeing what her spa has to offer.

Upon my entry, I was greeted by Tomoko and led to the waiting area where I was provided with a hot lavender towel and a welcome tray of green tea, detox lemon mineral water with organic orange peels frozen into a single ice cube and a mint chocolate. The atmosphere is calm and soothing with an electric burning fire to my left, a delicate waterfall to my right, and light sounds of spa music to set the tone.

After finishing our refreshments, my friend and I were greeted by our masseuses and led down the hall to our private suite. We were given Japanese kimono style robes to change into as we awaited our couples massage. We had the Tomoko Couple Massage which began with a 15 minute detox foot soak.

“The foot bath massage has a lot of benefits. For one, it helps and improves with the circulation of the blood. Also, the lower extremities are usually cold and the muscles in the feet don’t get enough exercise and circulation. Thus, It makes the massage treatment more effective,” Tomoko shared with us.

This was followed by a one hour massage where organic oils were used to soothe us and the pressure was adjusted to our liking to help alleviate all stress and tension. Once the massage was complete, the masseuses exited the room to allow us to wash off. The suite comes equipped with its own private shower and bath. We switched into our swimsuits and opted for a bath the large wooden tub made for two. Lavender oil was dropped into the water as Tomoko ran the bath for us, while offering more green tea to hydrate post massage.

Then we had full privacy where we soaked in the tub and enjoyed hot green tea within our reach as the tub has its own built in tray so you can snack and drink without moving an inch. Once we finished bathing, we enjoyed dessert. Keeping within the Japanese theme, we were served coconut jelly, mango mocha and green tea, which were all delicious. After changing back into our clothes we were greet by Tomoko outside of our private suite to be taken back to the waiting area where she served another glass of lemon mineral water and asked us how we enjoyed our services.

We loved every detail she put into the spa from the wood finishing to the serving platters and dishes. She explained that Tomoko Spa is designed by Thea Home Inc. in collaboration with Tal Naor and she has had a location in Israel for 9 years. When asked why she chose Beverly Hills, she replied, “It was my dream to open my first spa in Beverly Hills. I couldn’t think of a better locale than Beverly Hills for my first U.S. based spa.”

She continued to explain she wanted to offer Beverly Hills residents an exclusive spa experience and for that reason chose not to have “spa” in her outside signage. Instead, branding the location with solely “Tomoko” caters to the experience of a Japanese style spa catering to an exclusive clientele. This was unlike any other spa experience I’ve ever had. I was relaxed from the moment I walked through the doors to my very last step upon exit. Her staff is exquisite and you feel the privacy she has provided. It is the room service of pampering service where all your needs are met and you enjoy the stay in your private room and are attended to for all your needs. If you’re looking to treat yourself or have a relaxing day with your special someone, look into Tomoko Spa for your every need.
