Amy Winehouse was known for her unique voice and tumultuous life, but let’s not forget the songbird’s distinctive style. Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier certainly didn’t. And how does a fashion powerhouse give a nod to a music icon? By using Winehouse as the inspiration behind his vivacious Spring 2012 Couture collection of course.
Tightly-corseted old-Hollywood-inspired pieces abounded, made more edgy in true Gaultier and Winehouse style. Otherwise polished suit jackets were cut asymmetrically and long frocks were given a coquette-ish edge with the addition of super sheer panels. Models in ferociously-teased beehives strutted down the runway complete with cat eye liner and cigarettes in hand. A medley of Gaultier's signature dramatic elegance and a cheerful 50's inspired look makes this line sultry, edgy and fun - something Winehouse would be very proud of.
It was almost like the singer herself was back, and what a lovely way to celebrate her legacy.
