Naomi Campbell was recently outraged after seeing her name on billboards and in newspapers next to the Dairy Milk Bliss Bar by Cadbury, whose parent company is Kraft Foods. The ad features a Cadbury chocolate bar surrounded by jewels with the saying, "Move over Naomi, there's a new diva in town." She stated: ‘I am shocked. It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful.’ Also, backing up Naomi, is her mother Valerie Morris. Morris is deeply upset, saying 'Shame on Cadbury!' Naomi Campbell is considering taking legal action against Cadbury and has gotten Black Civil Rights groups involved in this matter, insisting that shoppers boycott Kraft Foods.
Some are suggesting that Naomi and her mother are both overreacting to the ad, citing that in the African American community it is no longer an insult, but rather a compliment about one's complexion being beautiful, dark and smooth. What do you think?? Give us your feedback!
