A Kickstarter campaign has been started to produce a Haitian doll that teaches cultural diversity, encourages Haitian teachings and to celebrate self-love. Creator, Carline Smothers, created the doll after her 5-year old daughter called characteristics that looked like her “ugly.”
Smothers is the CEO of Zoe Beautee, which means Haitian Beauty. Zoe Beautee was created, “to share the pride and beauty of the Haitian culture to the world, as well as, bringing self-love within the Haitian community.”
Follow their Kickstarter campaign, currently they are at 10% of their projected goal of $30,000. The campaign still available for 10 days. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the relief that is taking place to repair Haiti after the destruction of Hurricane Matthew.
