Sunday night Budweiser invited several hundred lucky fans to the New York leg of its first ever Monument Series, a celebration simultaneously taking place at Governor’s Island and Liberty Island.
We joined the crowd in Battery Park, where the Budweiser-provided ferries shuttled us to the Governor’s Island festival site, where we immediately grabbed free beer and burgers and made our way to the outdoor stage. The first musical act was New York City based band Misterwives, who put on an amazingly energetic performance of original songs and a great cover of “Uptown Funk.” Electronic saxophone and drum duo Big Gigantic hit the stage next and kept the energy until headliner T-Pain came on. T-Pain was clearly having a great time, and the went wild singing along to his huge collection of hits: everything from “Buy U A Drank” to his closer anthem “I’m on a Boat!” It was quite a performance, but the night wasn’t over just yet. As soon as T-Pain left the stage, a huge fountain of water shot up from Hudson River and the Governor’s Island crowd was treated to the Mary J. Blige concert live from Liberty Island across the harbor via hologram projected onto the mist! After this high-tech finale we boarded our ferry back to Manhattan only to look up for one final surprise – an epic fireworks show over the Statue of Liberty!
