Last week we were lucky enough to drop by Cantina Rooftop for a preview of their weekly Thursday happy hour party.

As their name and Hell’s Kitchen location would imply, this rootop is known for its stunning views of the Hudson River and midtown Manhattan as much as they are for their cuisine, and as soon as we stepped out of the elevator we took the opportunity to snap group photos against the city skyline while waiting for our table. We were then led to a rustic yet festive lounge area by the bar across from the large outdoor dining area where DJ Dippa was spinning records to the happy hour crowd, and treated to a happy hour tasting menu of modern Mexican cuisine and pitchers of margaritas: First came the guacamole trio (Cantina, El Diablo, and La Dona), quickly followed by the empanada trio (corn, cheese, and chicken) and then what can only be described as a platter of what seemed like every type of taco under the sun: shrimp, ribeye, tuna, pork belly carnitas, and Mexican sausage! As we indulged in each variety the bar menu had to offer while watching the sun set over the New York skyline it became quite clear that this was the happy hour rooftop party to beat.
