Mason Jars are no longer the staple of your grandmother’s kitchen, these jars have made a comeback in many ways. One way is to make a wonderful salad. When you create a salad in a mason jar, there is an order to place the ingredients for great storage and taste.
- Dressing: When you start your salad, put the dressing in first, this will help release the sogginess when it comes to the rest of the ingredients.
- Grains or Protein: If you are adding grains or protein to your salad place put these items in next.
- Extra Ingredients: Add your nuts, vegetables, or fruit.
- Leafy Greens: Put the greens in last.
- When you empty the jar on a plate or in a bowl, you have a perfect salad.
Recipes
Avocado Walnut Salad
1 quart size Mason Jar
2-4 tablespoon of dressing of your choice
½ cup chopped chicken
¼ cup each chopped walnuts, tomatoes, avocado, and corn
2 cups Romaine Lettuce
Greek Salad
1 quart size Mason Jar
2-4 tablespoons Creamy Greek Dressing
¼ cup each chopped carrots, cucumbers, celery and red onion
6-8 Black olives, pitted
¼ cup feta cheese, crumbled
2 cups Romaine lettuce
Pasta and Spinach Salad
1 quart size mason jar
2-4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar dressing
½ cup cut grape tomatoes
3 ounces fresh mozzarella
2 cups dry whole grain pasta, cooked
3 cups baby spinach
Taco Salad
1 quart size mason jar
½ lb ground turkey
¼ cups salsa
2 mini cucumbers, sliced
½ small red onion, chopped
½ cup black beans ½ cup of cheese
½ cup of olives
½ quart cherry tomatoes
1 avocado chopped
3 cups chopped romaine lettuce
juice from half of a lime
Place the ingredients in the jar. When you are ready to eat empty the jar on a plate or in a bowl. Enjoy!
